Palestinian-American Adolescent Released After 270 Days in Israel's Detention

A American-Palestinian youth who spent nine months in Israel's custody absent formal charges gained freedom.

Mohammed Ibrahim was 15 when he was arrested last February within the occupied West Bank, where he was visiting from his Florida home accused of stone-throwing against settlement residents, which he previously denied.

American diplomatic officials said it welcomed the teenager's freedom.

Mohammed, now 16, needed medical care upon gaining freedom, relatives told the media.

They said he is pale, underweight, while battling health issues developed during imprisonment.

Via family representatives, the youth's uncle expressed the family's "immense relief".

Zeyad Kadur said the family had been "surviving a terrible, unending nightmare" over the last nine months.

"Right now, we're concentrating on ensuring Mohammed receives urgent medical care he requires following exposure to mistreatment by authorities and cruel circumstances over several months."

American authorities announced ongoing to provide consular support to Mohammed's family.

{"American leadership gives utmost importance than the safety and security of American nationals"," it added.

Twenty-seven US lawmakers submitted a formal letter to US authorities and President Donald Trump, demanding more be done to secure his release.

Mr Ibrahim, parent of four children operating an ice cream shop from Florida, previously said Mohammed acknowledged allegations regarding stone throwing due to physical abuse.

The father hadn't visited or spoken to Mohammed since February, learning information solely regarding the treatment via legal paperwork.

Mohammed was held lacking indictment at Ofer detention facility on the West Bank.

It is also home to adult prisoners, including individuals found guilty regarding severe security violations including killings.

Approximately 350 Palestinian child security detainees being held in Israeli jails, based on prison authority data.

Several lack formal charges and human rights groups, and international organizations, say some have suffered physical abuse and torture.

Following Mohammed's release, family representatives announced relatives would persist in advocating demanding accountability for their family member Sayfollah Musallet.

The 20-year-old dual US citizen per medical officials succumbed to assault by Israeli settlers amid clashes last July.

At the time, military authorities reported officials were investigating information regarding a civilian had been killed.

Both young men were employed together within the family's frozen treats establishment based in Florida.

No charges have been filed regarding Sayfollah's death.

"We anticipate US authorities to safeguard our relatives," Mr Kadur said.
